MOSCOW, 4 September (BelTA) – Belarus is holding the Guest of Honor status at the 32nd edition of the Moscow International Book Fair which kicked off in the Russian capital on 4 September, BelTA has learned.

“This year the Republic of Belarus is the Guest of Honor at the Moscow Book Fair,” Russian President's Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy said at the opening ceremony of the forum. He added that in early 2019 Russia took part in the Minsk Book Fair as the Guest of Honor. “Today the Minsk Book Fair is one of the most important cultural events not only in the Eastern Europe and the CIS but across the entire Europe,” Mikhail Shvydkoy said.

Belarus’ Information Minister Aleksandr Karlyukevich stressed that the guest of honor status gives an opportunity to exhibit a wide range of products published in Belarus. “We have brought several thousand books to fill our exhibition with the total area of more than 200 square meters. These books are about the present-day country. There is also a lot of documentary and historical literature, as well as belles-lettres,” the minister said.

According to Aleksandr Karlyukevich, Belarusian publishers produced several new translations of the works of Belarusian writer Uladzimir Karatkievich especially for the Moscow Book Fair. “We have also brought various initiatives to discuss with Russian publishers,” he added.

Apart from official talks, the Belarusian delegation will hold presentations of its publishing projects, including the ones marking the Year of Native Land and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazis. The program will also include different workshops, panel discussions, autograph sessions and other events.

The Moscow Book International Fair 2019 is taking place in one of the biggest pavilions of the All-Russian Exhibition Center (VDNH). This year, the exhibition has brought together book publishers from 33 countries that have put on show almost 100,000 products. The fair will stay open through 8 September.
