MINSK, 8 August (BelTA) - Belarus has taken part in the 4^th International Day of Friendship in New York for the first time, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian music band Bycity was selected to represent Europe at the festival. New York residents heard a number of Belarusian songs.

In cooperation with the Consulate General of Belarus in New York, representatives of the Belarusian diaspora took part in the beautification of the international village where every visitor was invited to try Belarusian sweets, cookies, marsh-mallow and honey. The Belarusian national costumes and souvenirs made from straw were also on display.

Head of the Belarusian community in New York, veteran of the Great Patriotic War Iosif Kaplitsky carried the Belarusian flag in a parade alongside with representatives of 193 UN member states. The event was wrapped up with the mass singing of We Are the World.
