Belarus’ Sergei Vyazovich places fourth in 2017 Dakar Stage 2

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Belarusian truck driver Sergei Vyazovich crossed the finishing line of the second leg of the 2017 Dakar Rally in 4th position, BelTA learned from Belarusian mobile carrier velcom, a technical partner of the MAZ-SPORTavto team.

Sergei Vyazovich overtook last year’s winner Gerard de Rooy, a Dutch truck racer who came in fifth. The Belarusian driver clocked 2h40m, some three minutes off the stage winner, Dutch racer Martin van den Brink. Sergei Vyazovich now sits in 6th place overall in the truck category.

Alexei Vishnevsky finished Dakar Stage 2 in 18th clocking some 2h52m on the special, 20 minutes off Martin van den Brink. After the second leg of the rally, the young Belarusian racer is 21st in the overall standings.

Alexander Vasilevsky came in 23rd. He cleared the stage in 2h55m losing some 18 minutes to the stage winner. The Belarusian pilot currently sits in 22nd overall.

The third stage of the Dakar Rally will take the racers from San Miguel de Tucuman to San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina. A long liaison section will be followed by a 199km mountainous special stage. The trucks will reach nearly 5,000 meters above sea level, cross rivers, and face many other challenges.
