MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The Board of Directors of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) approved Belarusian tennis player Natalia Zvereva as the recipient of the ITF Services for the Game Award. Representatives of the Belarusian Tennis Federation will be presented with the award at the ITF annual conference which is due in Dubai on 16-18 September, BelTA has learned.
USSR Honored Master of Sports Natalia Zvereva is a holder of numerous titles (20) at the Grand Slam tournaments among tennis players from the former Soviet Union. Among her achievements are ten consecutive doubles finals (1989-1998) at the Roland Garros, with four of them being victorious (1992-1995). She held the WTA women’s doubles top spot which she reached at the age of 20 on 7 October the total of 124 weeks. Natalia Zvereva’s best achievement in the singles rankings was the 5th place she reached on 22 May 1988. She won four WTA singles tournaments.
Natalia Zvereva participated in four Olympic Games (1988, 1992, 1996, 2000). At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona the Belarusian player coupled with Leila Meskhi to claim the doubles bronze. In 2010 Natalia Zvereva was inducted in the International Tennis Hall of Fame. In 2014 the player received the Tennis Europe Award for outstanding contribution to the sport.
