The matter was discussed at a meeting of Chairman of the Investigative Committee Ivan Noskevich and the UNICEF representatives, BelTA learned from the website of the Investigative Committee.

Ivan Noskevich discussed the prospects of cooperation in child protection with Deputy Chairwoman of the UNICEF Office in Belarus Gabrielle Akimova and UNICEF adviser Anna Pinayeva. The parties expressed interest in the implementation of joint projects.

Emphasizing the importance of the meeting, Ivan Noskevich stressed: “Safeguarding the life of children against unlawful infringements is considered by the Investigative Committee as a priority task. The focus is on preventive measures. The impact of online destructive communities on children and the distribution of pornographic materials are in the focus of attention as well. Children fall victims not only to domestic violence but also to the violence in the cyberspace. To address these problems we undertake pre-trial procedure measures, cooperate with other government bodies and public organizations. We will be happy to develop constructive cooperation with the UNICEF.”

According to Gabrielle Akimova, the analysis conducted by the UNICEF together with the government of Belarus revealed the areas that need immediate investment and joint work. The UNICEF program in Belarus for 2016-2020 reflects national interests. They include the development of a safe environment for children. Other important issues include the efforts to prevent psychological and physical violence against children in the family, promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce child mortality caused by external factors, as well as preventive measures to ensure the fulfillment of children’s interests.
