Belarus hosts 3rd international scientific and technical translation contest

Belarus hosts 3rd international scientific and technical translation contestMINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – The 3rd international scientific and technical translation contest gathered over 50 participants from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and China, BelTA learned from representatives of Bel Huawei Technologies Company. The contest took place at premises of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone on 21-22 October with assistance of Bel Huawei Technologies Company.

The event was organized in association with the Embassy of China in Belarus within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative. The contest was organized by the Confucius Institute on Science and Technology of the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) and CZAO Industrial Park Development Company. For two days young translators of Chinese showed their skills in written translation, consecutive interpretation, simultaneous interpretation in two categories — students and professionals. In addition to demonstrating their skills in the area of Russian-Chinese translation and interpretation the young specialists could meet with colleagues from neighboring countries and make a name in front of potential employers.

Anna Bairamova, a master’s degree student at the Moscow State University, won the contest among students. Anna Alyushina, a specialist at the Translations Support Department of the industrial park, won the contest for professionals. Apart from valuable prizes the winners will get internship opportunities in Huawei Corporation. Rector of the Belarusian National Technical University Sergei Kharitonchik, Deputy Director of SZAO Industrial Park Development Company Xu Baoming, and top officials of a Belarusian-Chinese investment fund attended the award ceremony. The strong interest of Chinese companies, which operate in Belarus, in professional translators and interpreters was confirmed.

Bel Huawei Technologies Company representatives said that Belarus and China are connected by relations of trustful comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation, with multiple bilateral projects in progress in various fields. In particular, the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone is being created as China’s largest industrial park abroad in terms of investments and as a platform for developing cutting-edge technologies in Belarus. The park is interested in attracting a large number of technical translators and Chinese-speaking specialists, who could work in the managing company and resident companies.

It was the third time Bel Huawei Technologies Company had supported this contest. Huawei is an internationally recognized supplier of telecommunication solutions. Huawei’s innovative services and solutions are used in more than 170 countries across the globe.
