Belarus Events Calendar: December 2018

Avant garde. 20th century

The debut project of the Libra Gallery displays 50 paintings by famous artists of the 20th century. The exposition includes works by Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Rene Magritte, Georges Braque, Paul Wunderlich, Wassily Kandinsky.

Art of Chocolate exhibition

The Art of Chocolate exhibition is on the world tour and has already attracted over a million visitors. The project promises viewers a full immersion into the sweet world of chocolate thanks to a special concept: watch, touch, play, feel, shoot, smell.

Leningrad band in Minsk

For 20 years since founding, Leningrad, Russia’s most expensive performance band from St Petersburg, has preformed on all continents, except Antarctica (all in all, 66 cities). The Belarusian capital stands out among these cities. According to frontman Sergei Shnurov: “Our most emotional concerts  happen in Minsk. The audience here is receptive as nowhere else.” The band returns to Minsk for the fourth time already. Every time the band performs to the overflowing audiences.

Onegin Blues in Minsk

Based on the novel by Alexander Pushkin, the ironic drama combines several genres: opera, ballet, and instrumental music. The story, which was created by the famous director Mikhail Tsitrinyak, captivates by original interpretation, plot twists and ... an unexpected ending. The acting by People's Artist of Russia Aleksei Guskov, to saxophone music played by brilliant Igor Butman, leaves a train of questions and mysteries.

Vyacheslav Butusov in Minsk

The 35th program called “Goodbye, America!” (the name of the track from the film Brat 2) will feature Vyacheslav Butusov’s most famous hits in new arrangements.

Sollertinsky International Music Festival in Vitebsk

Belarus’ only chamber music festival, dedicated to the prominent art critic of the 1920-30s Ivan Sollertinsky, will gather in Vitebsk musicians from all over the world. A piano concerto of Honored Artist of Russia Boris Berezovsky will be a curtain-raiser for the launch of the festival. The program 2018 will continue with a chamber concert (soloists: violinist Haik Kazazyan and pianist Andrei Shybko) and a theatrical-musical project “From the life of insects” which includes 14 stories-etudes. The playbill also includes concerts by  soloists of the Klassic-Avangard ensemble and the State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus.

Romeo and Juliet ballet in Bolshoi Theater of Belarus

The legendary ballet based on Shakespeare’s tragedy will premiere on stage of the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus on 5 December. Maestro Valentin Elizariev will offer his interpretation of the ageless story of the world classics. This audacious rendition promises to amaze the audience: in the battle episodes spectators will see a new character – Antagonism – to be mirrored by the moves of six dancers.

Bolero Show by Liasan Utiasheva

Organizers tout this show as a mystic theater and dance performance, an unconventional production for mature minds. World and European champion, famous gymnast Liasan Utiasheva and a team of professional dancers will use body language to convey their message to the audience. Innovative sound solutions by Ryan Otter, experimental combination of dance styles, digital graphics and carefully designed images – Liasan Utiasheva’s show will certainly take your breath away.

Belarus’ Song of the Year 2018

Over 30 famous Belarusian artists whose songs top Belarusian radio charts will take part in one of the country’s most anticipated music events - Belarus’ Song of the Year 2018. Taking to the stage of the Palace of the Republic will be NaviBand, Anatoly Yarmolenko and the Syabry ensemble, Alyona Lanskaya, Larisa Gribalyova, Herman, Aleksey Khlestov, Inna Afanasyeva, Iskui Abalyan and many more.

LOBODA in Minsk

Breathtaking stunts, amazing choreography, megawatts of light and time-tested hits – all this will be offered to the audience of LOBODA: Space Show in Minsk. Svetlana Loboda’s producer Natella Krapivina used the latest in light and visual technology, mind-blowing choreography and best expertise of a team of professions to stage this show. Performing on the country’s biggest music stage Svetlana Loboda will sing her well-known singles, like Revolution, 40 Degrees, Down With Love, Your Eyes.

Georgian ballet Lelo

The Georgian ballet company of 20 dancers will present an authentic show hailing from the sunny country of Georgia – a country where dancing has a special meaning. Spectators will be able to enjoy folk dances (military ones, aristocratic ones, mountain ones, and other ones) and modern folk numbers. As many as 150 folk costumes, inimitable Georgian energy, skills of professional dancers – the show ballet Lelo led by Givi Kbilashvili takes the world’s most prestigious stages by storm.

Golden Gramophone 2018 musical award ceremony  in Minsk

One of the largest musical events in the CIS space – the Golden Gramophone Award – will take place in Minsk Arena on 9 December. The Minsk version of the concert will not differ from the Moscow one: the performers will include Filipp Kirkorov, Polina Gagarina, Valery Meladze, Vera Brezhneva, the Burito band, Zara, Yulianna Karaulova, Filatov & Karas. Spectators will be treated to dazzling performances from the show business stars and the top hit songs of the year.

Vienna Strauss Orchestra in Minsk

Masterpieces of classic instrumental music, works by the famous Strauss dynasty and other virtuosos of the Vienna operetta as well as popular refined melodies will be performed in Minsk by two notable orchestras at once. For the first time the Palace of the Republic will welcome a new joint show of the Presidential Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus led by Viktor Babarikin and the Vienna Strauss Orchestra. The Vienna Strauss Orchestra is the official orchestra of the Austrian capital and has been a keeper of world musical culture traditions for over 30 years.

Goran Bregovic and the Wedding and Funeral Orchestra in Minsk

The prominent composer and musician Goran Bregovic will present a new project in Minsk – Three Letters From Sarajevo – a violin concert accompanied by the State Academic Symphonic Orchestra of Belarus led by Arkady Berin. While talking about the idea, Goran Bregovic stressed: “Sarajevo is not simply the name of the city. It is a metaphor of how good neighbors can calmly live next to each for a long time only to suddenly start shooting at each other. In my project I try to switch from history to feelings, from feelings to joy, from sorrow to dancing.”

Metallica Show S&M Tribute and Symphony Orchestra

Metallica Show S&M Tribute by the Presidential Orchestra under the baton of Viktor Babarikin is a unique mixture of rock and symphonic music. The synthesis of heavy metal and classical music recreates the Metallica S&М triumphal album of 1999.

30 Years. The Best: A'Studio in Minsk

One of the most successful and stylish music bands in the CIS, A'Studio, marks 30 years on the music scene. The Kazakh band from Almaty got promoted thanks to Alla Pugacheva. The concert in Minsk will feature a retrospective of the band’s best hits, including the very first singles such as Julia and Nelyubimaya (Unloved) and also songs with new vocalist Keti Topuria Uletayu (Flying Away), Dusha (Soul), Fashion Girl, Vot Ona Lyubov (This is Love).

Max Barskih in Minsk

The CIS top touring and most rotated singer on FM radio stations Max Barskih is coming to Minsk with a new solo show. As part of the current tour launched in 2018, the singer has given concerts in the United States and Canada for the first time. The ongoing tour will also include concerts in Germany, the UK, the CIS and Baltic states and, of course, Ukraine, his homeland. Max’s fans in Minsk will hear his best hits, including Sdelay Gromche (Turn It Up), Half-Naked, Fogs, My Love, and many more.

RITA DAKOTA in Minsk

Belarus’ Rita Dakota is well-known to a wide audience from the popular reality show Factory of Stars. During the TV project she performed her songs and also wrote songs for other participants of the show. Today the singer lives in Moscow, pursuing a solo career. Her songs are performed by many Russian singers.  In 2017, she wrote a single for Belarus’ Junior Eurovision act Helena Meraai. The author of the hits Polcheloveka, Nezhnost, Boyus Chto Da is coming to Minsk with her first solo concert.
