Belarus donates Francysk Skaryna’s Book Legacy to Ukrainian libraries

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – A unique facsimile edition titled “Francysk Skaryna’s Book Legacy” was donated to the biggest libraries of Ukraine in an official ceremony in Kiev on 26 May, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Ukraine.

Director of Belarus’ National Library Roman Motulsky donated the books to the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine, Museum of Books and Printing of Ukraine, the Odessa National Academic Library, Transcarpathian Local History Museum, State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve in Ostrog, Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and Korolenko Kharkov State Scientific Library.

The event was attended by Director General of the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine Tamara Vylegzhanina, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Culture Ministry of Ukraine, diplomats, cultural and art figures of Belarus and Ukraine.

Roman Motulsky and Tamara Vylegzhanina signed an agreement on cooperation between the National Library of Belarus and the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine.

The facsimile edition comprises 25 books printed by Francysk Skaryna in Prague (1517-1519) and Vilno (1522-1525) and has been printed ahead of the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing.
