Azarenka knocks out Kato in Monterrey opener

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) - Former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently ranked 67, had a successful Abierto GNP Seguros debut on Tuesday, 2 April, claiming a first-round victory over qualifier Miyu Kato of Japan, 6-4, 6-2, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face Kazakhstan’s world number 107 Zarina Diyas.

In Charleston, the United States Belarus’ world number ten Aryna Sabalenka will open against Ukraine’s world number 99 Kateryna Kozlova in the second round.

In the women’s doubles opener Lidziya Marozava of Belarus and Japan’s Shuko Aoyama defeated Sofia Kenin of the United States and Fanny Stollar of Hungary 6-4, 6-3.
