Some 678 journalists have been accredited with the 2019 Elections information center of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus, First Deputy Information Minister, head of the center Pavel Lyogky told reporters on 15 November.

The information center is almost ready for work. “The center can now communicate with regions via video conferencing. It has also created the necessary working conditions for journalists. We have accredited 678 mass media representatives, including 323 from abroad,” Pavel Lyogky said.

“In addition to that, we have invited a group of nearly 40 experts to comment on the parliamentary elections,” he said.

The information center has been traditionally set up in the small hall of the Palace of the Republic where many important public and political events take place. “The hall has everything in place to enable smooth operation of the center,” he said.

The information center will open on 17 November and will stay open till late at night. The first press conference is to start at 10:00. On 18 November the CEC will announce preliminary results of the elections. Observation missions are to hold their press conferences, too.

The information center was opened in the run-up to the 2001 presidential election. It is designed to be a communications platform of the Central Election Commission where journalists can get fresh updates.
