MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) - Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich has become the first qualifier to reach the Brisbane International women's final, BelTA has learned.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No. 88 on the WTA rankings) proved too strong to claim a 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 victory in the semifinal match against Anastasija Sevestova of Latvia. The match lasted 1 hour 34 minutes.
The Belarusian started Brisbane in the qualifying round. She beat Russia’s Polina Monova (178), U.S. Julia Boserup (135) and Australian Isabelle Wallace (235). In the main draw Aliaksandra defeated Kristina Mladenovic of France (11), Estonian Anett Kontaveit (34) and French Alize Cornet (38).
In the Brisbane final on 6 January Aliaksandra Sasnovich will play the winner of Friday night's semifinal between second seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic and world No.6 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine. Karolina Pliskova was last year’s winner. Victoria Azarenka won the tournament in 2016.
