Presidents of Belarus, Ecuador determined to ramp up bilateral ties

QUITO, 28 June (BelTA) – President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and his Ecuador counterpart Rafael Correa Delgado are strongly determined to make a breakthrough in the bilateral cooperation. The two Presidents made this statement at a meeting in Quito on 28 June, BelTA has learnt.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that trade is an indicator of the economic cooperation level. “It is tiny compared with the potential of our countries,” the Belarusian leader said. The President believes that the two countries are well-positioned to boost it.

“We have absolutely no forbidden topics. We are ready to do any favor for you. Science, new technologies, and economic projects – we will be happy to show you anything you will find interesting. We are ready to share any technologies that might benefit Ecuador,” the Belarusian head of state said.

The President of Ecuador believes that the ongoing visit of the Belarusian leader will strengthen the friendly ties between the two states. “We are very glad that you chose to visit Ecuador during your trip to Latin America. We know that Belarus is a well-developed country, has high technologies and a solid position on the international arena,” Rafael Correa Delgado said.

He expressed interest in Belarus’ technologies. “We know that Belarus is a country with advanced science, technologies and industry. We need new technologies, therefore, we would like to know what Belarus could offer us as part of sci-tech cooperation,” he noted.

Rafael Correa Delgado believes that Ecuador also has things to offer to Belarusian specialists. “We have the world’s biggest laboratory – the Amazon selva. It is a huge natural university and we invite Belarusian specialists to come here to conduct research,” he said. The Ecuador President added that the country is set to establish a university engaged in technological research. Rafael Correa Delgado believes that Belarus could be of great help to Ecuador.

“Thus, everything is in place for our joint work. We need to do a lot, especially in trade,” the Ecuador President said. He expressed regret that despite the 20-year history of diplomatic relations, the bilateral cooperation has made little headway. “We would like this visit to become a springboard for Belarus-Ecuador relations,” he emphasized.
