RIO-DE-JANEIRO, 12 August (BelTA) – Belarusian table tennis player Vladimir Samsonov lost the bronze medal game to Jun Mizutani from Japan 1-4 to finish fourth at 2016 Rio Games, BelTA has learned.
It was the sixth Olympic Games for the Belarusian athlete. The fourth place at the Games is Vladimir Samsonov’s best Olympic result. In 1996 and 2000 the Belarusian completed his Olympic performance in the quarterfinal. In Athens (2004), Beijing (2008), and London (2012) he failed to reach the top eight.
Vladimir Samsonov has won 24 international tournaments and also is a numerous winner and medalist of world and European championships in singles, doubles and team events. In 1996-2011 Vladimir Samsonov was among the world’s top ten table tennis players. The Belarusian was ranked ninth by the ITTF in August.
