Lukashenko talks about countries behind provocations against Belarus

Lukashenko talks about countries behind provocations against Belarus

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – A number of countries stand behind the provocations that target Belarus. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during an interview with the Arab-speaking TV channel Sky News Arabia on 19 July, BelTA has learned.

Asked who may stand behind the provocations that target Belarus, who may be interested in them and initiates them, Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “We are absolutely sure that the USA, its security agencies, and what not are the primary force behind the provocations. Politicians over there shape the agenda while security agencies act as executors. Because the assassination of a head of state can be authorized only by the supreme leadership of a country. We also know the countries from where these measures are implemented. Those are Lithuania, partially Latvia, and first of all Poland and Ukraine.”

“We’ve recently seen German oversight over the terrorists that operate in Belarus,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

“You cannot stay on amicable terms with them. Democracy and human rights are just words. We’ve recently arrested a bunch of people during attempts to commit terrorist attacks in Belarus and murder reporters, your colleagues. We’ve passed on the facts to the German leadership. Do you think they have responded since then? No,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Fugitive Belarusians, extremists, and terrorists have planned more provocations against Belarus. We’ve also sent these facts to law enforcement agencies of Lithuania and Poland. Do you think the leaders of Lithuania and Poland have taken steps in response? No. On the contrary, tensions are being inflated. This is why it is absolutely useless to speak the human language to them, to speak the language of the law.”

The head of state noted that Belarus cannot afford agitating the entire world by violating international norms and laws. “America can afford it. When they had to bomb Iraq, they did it. When they had to bring Afghanistan to its knees, they did it and left the country. They can afford doing it. China and Russia could afford it due to their power and military strength. But not Belarus. We know our place,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed the collective West led by Washington cannot allow Belarus to be a sovereign and independent state. “While we say we have the right to be sovereign and independent and define our own policy. And we are fighting for this right. We protect it and we will continue defending it,” the head of state assured.
