MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) - Protection of the Fatherland is the issue of nationwide importance, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in the message of greetings on Fatherland Defender’s Day and the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus which was read out by State Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Mezhuyev at the solemn gathering in the Palace of the Republic on 20 February, BelTA has learned.
“Today the Republic of Belarus is an independent sovereign state which ensures peace, stability, and accord. No one should have doubts that the priorities will be the same in the future because the protection of the Fatherland is the issue of nationwide importance, and the Armed Forces are always ready to properly respond to any challenges and threats,” the message of greetings reads.
The head of state also said that in the year when the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory is celebrated, Fatherland Defender’s Day and the Day of the Armed Forces are especially important. In the holy struggle against the enemy of the mankind Belarusian soldiers demonstrated an example of genuine valor, tenacity, and selfless love for the Homeland. “This is a holiday for those who protected freedom and independence of our Fatherland during the Great Patriotic War, who followed the steps of the generation of victors and do their best to safeguard the country’s stability in present conditions,” the message reads.
