Lukashenko presents state awards, general’s straps

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has presented state awards to people from across various walks of life, mothers who raised many children, as well as general’s straps to senior officers. The  solemn ceremony took place at the Palace of Independence on 6 March, BelTA has learned.

“Perhaps the most rewarding mission for the president is to present awards to distinguished people, to be among those who make Belarus stronger and more beautiful by their daily work, and who make the life of Belarusians safer and richer,” the head of state said at the start of the event. The ceremony was traditionally held in the run-up to International Women's Day. This function is distinguished by its cordial and festive atmosphere. “This atmosphere is due to women, their smile, beauty and charm. The gloss and magnificence of the Palace of Independence are enhanced by the dress uniforms of our officers,” the Belarusian leader said.

Among the invitees were more than 30 people, including representatives of the army and other law enforcement agencies, honored workers, and mothers with many children. “Such a gender balance is not an attempt to follow western trends. The high status of uniformed people in our country and the respectful and caring attitude to women are absolutely fundamental values of the Belarusian society,” the president noted.

“Peace is impossible without those who serve the people and know how to defend them. We remember those who brought us freedom  75 years ago. Belarusians are grateful to war veterans for their feats and venerate the heroic generation of our fathers and grandfathers. I am confident that children and  grandchildren are worthy of their glorious grandparents,” the head of state said. Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned Oleg Boinichev from the Emergencies Ministry as an example. Captain Oleg Boinichev and his co-workers risked their lives to prevent an explosion on the railway when several tank cars carrying explosive gas ran off the rails. “Such courageous and bold people maintain peace and calm of Belarusians today. Hats off to them!” the president underlined.

Aleksandr Lukashenko gave his special thanks to women with many children, as they chose a difficult, but very important mission. “I would say this mission is extremely important for the country. You take care not only of your children. You give life to new generations, you give hope for a better future and prosperity to the entire nation. After all, the future depends on you, dear women. I know that most of you do not only have a fulfilling family life, but have also achieved great success professionally. This is twice as great,” the president noted.

Awards and honorary titles were also bestowed upon women who achieved great success in culture, art, science and teaching. “We know and value your contribution to the upbringing of the younger generation, preservation of spiritual heritage and moral values,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president congratulated Belarusian female athletes on their sweeping victories at the world and European championships. These victories were acknowledged through the Merited Master of Sport title.

“Thank you for everything you do for the country and our people. In the run-up to this wonderful spring holiday I would like to give my warmest regards to women of our Belarus. Please, receive my sincere wishes of good health, happiness and wellbeing. I wish you the most important things – peace and wellness,” the head of state said addressing the attendees.

The Order of Honor was bestowed upon manager of a crop farming team at the Girki agricultural company, Voronovo District Maria Kozich.

Aleksandr Lukashenko presented the Order of Mother to women who have raised five and more children. The awardees included makeup artist at the National State Television and Radio Company Olga Areshova-Kamenskaya and kindergarten teacher from Lyuban District Natalia Mamaiko.
