Lukashenko presents passports to young citizens of Belarus on Constitution Day
MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko presented passports to young citizens of Belarus on Constitution Day. It is for the first time that a ceremony of this kind took place at the Palace of Independence, BelTA informs.
The ceremony brought together 25 young Belarusians from various regions of the country. These 14-year-olds have already made significant achievements in education, social life, sport, culture, they take part in academic excellence competitions, creative contests, and sports events.
The ceremony was held in the hall where the president usually receives credentials of foreign ambassadors. This environment made the event even more significant.
Alexander Lukashenko sincerely wished the young people a happy Constitution Day and presented books “I Am the Citizens of the Republic of Belarus” to them.
“It is symbolic that in the year when you were born our young state also marked the 14th anniversary. And it is a genuine pleasure for your parents, the entire Belarusian nation and me personally to see such persevering, successful and talented children of our sovereign Belarus in this hall,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “You are the greatest treasure for all the founding fathers of the independent country.”
The head of state emphasized that in every young participant of the ceremony lives the centuries-old dream of our ancestors to be the owners of their land. “This dream became a reality for you. You study the history of the country and definitely realize that it is a huge honor and a privilege to be born and to live in a strong and independent state,” the president remarked.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, Alexander Lukashenko described their peers as the generation of new information with a world view of the citizens of the world. “Digital reality which is part and parcel of your everyday life erased geographical borders and barriers in communication, cultural and language differences long ago. But you must always remember that your Motherland, your own home is your native Belarus,” the head of state emphasized. “It is this connection with the native land and your roots that will always give you refreshing energy and strength to fulfill your most cherished dreams.”
The president remarked that teenagers make the first steps in adult life when they receive passports. “This document symbolizes the beginning of a new stage in life full of interesting and important events, including political ones,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “Before long, we will make important decisions in the history of Belarus and protect the country’s national interests. You will create the future of the country, think about its wellbeing, about the legacy that you will leave to your children. It means that you will do your best to preserve our spiritual values, cultural heritage and, what is the main thing, peace in our country.”
Young citizens of Belarus were also taken on an excursion to the Palace of Independence which is one of the modern symbols of Belarusian statehood and sovereignty.
During the excursion, boys and girls were shown into various halls of the Palace of Independence which hosted major state events, international meetings and summits, including a Normandy format meeting, and told about the history of this remarkable building. They also shared impressions of the meeting with the president and made photos.
The children toured the museum at the Palace of Independence where various presents from other heads of state and foreign delegations, renowned representatives of various spheres. The main exclusive exhibit is stored in the president’s office. It is first copy of the working Constitution of Belarus. It is especially symbolic that the guests of the Palace of Independence saw it on the 25th anniversary of the Fundamental Law.
At the end of the excursion the children also received sweets and chocolates as presents.
