MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko presented the Order of Friendship of Peoples to Chairman of the Communist Party faction in the Russian parliament Gennady Zyuganov, BelTA has learned.

“You are doing a lot in Russia. And it is not a flattery,” Alexander Lukashenko told the leader of the Communist Party. “We are presenting this award to you not because it is election time. We took this decision long ago. It was just that I did not have an opportunity to present this award to you personally.”

The Belarusian President noted that the Communist Party is very close to people. “I am very glad that Russia’s authorities have finally understood that the Communist Party is not a party of breakup, revolution, and war. This party is focused on creation,” the head of state emphasized.

Gennady Zyuganov has been honored in Belarus in recognition of his big personal contribution to the enhancement of friendly ties and cooperation between Belarus and Russia, establishment of the Union State, development of economic, scientific, technical, and cultural ties.
