MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) - Much attention is devoted to sport in Belarus, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with the academic staff and students of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education on 10 April, BelTA has learned.
According to the head of state, considerable funds are allocated for sport development in the country. Conditions for doing sports have been created for all sections of the population. The President wants the country’s gyms and sports complexes working at full capacity.
The President emphasized that the country’s sports federations and associations are headed by high-level executives who can keep the processes in the sport they supervise under complete control. Belarus hosts a lot of sport events every year. The 2014 IIHF World Championship was a success. Belarus has also been granted the right to host the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2019. The country is preparing its bids to host the European Indoor Athletics Championships in 2019 and the 2021 IIHF World Championship.
“And, of course, we expect victories and new records from our athletes,” the President stressed.
