Lukashenko: Healthcare sector will stay well equipped to deliver high-quality care

MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – The healthcare sector will stay well equipped to deliver high-quality care to the population, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he held a meeting to discuss the measures to counter the spread of viral infections, BelTA has learned.

“We will continue to provide the healthcare system with everything necessary resources to provide medical care in full. Funding of the industry will be sustainable but thoughtful and results-oriented as it has always been,” the president noted.

According to the head of state, in the spring-summer period, the government took timely measures, which, alongside the active response measures of the healthcare system, yielded positive results. “However, the seasonal period of acute respiratory diseases and coronavirus infection is projected to be longer this year. We cannot ignore the additional negative impact of mass events, which have caused the number of cases to go up,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

"This does not mean that we, as it was in the spring in some states, close everything down, impose a curfew and put everyone in quarantine. We need to follow the path we took in the spring- summer period. I suggest we cancel the mass evens we can do without, especially indoor activities,” the head of state noted.

He stressed that the Belarusian healthcare system has all necessary resources. This applies to hospitals, medical personnel, medications, equipment and personal protective equipment. Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested involving, if necessary, medical school students to help the mid-level medical staff and paying them for their work.

The head of state also stressed that digital information platforms for communication with medical workers in the regions should be used in order to receive information related to problems, take prompt action, share experience and best practices. “Today additional measures are also proposed to contain the epidemic, including restrictive ones. We will hear reports about them, and if it is time to impose some restrictions, we will do it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

The president added that Belarus’ response to the pandemic, without any strict quarantine and curfew measures during the first wave, has been supported by all sensible people in the world.
