Lukashenko describes devotion to nation, state as key qualities of executive personnel

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – To be devoted to their nation and their state is an important trait in executives. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he made a number of personnel decisions on 29 July, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko admitted that he had required additional scrutiny for some of the suggested candidacies many times. “Even the head of the Belarus President Administration learned this morning that [the former Deputy Chairman of the State Security Committee Vladimir Kalach] will be appointed president’s aide. I had a thousand questions but I received answers to all the questions. The last answer came from his current boss: he informed me about this general late last night. We select personnel very carefully,” the president noted.

The president stressed: “Last year taught us a lot, this is why decent people should be put in positions of power. So-called democracy does not exist in the world at all… Thank god, everyone has seen it. When we said that we needed professionals, that there should be some freedom, some competition between candidates during the appointment process, it was all correct. We need professionals and you are professionals. Nevertheless, your devotion to your nation and the state is an important trait in each of you.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko told the appointees: “If you come into the office of the president, you should not forget there is a president in the country. Some may not like the president but if the president appoints you (I talked to diplomats about it), then you represent the president in your line of work. You are the face of this president. And I’ve never failed those I’ve appointed. And I will never fail you either. Rest assured.”

According to the head of state, fight for Belarus’ sovereignty and independence has become the keynote idea of the current appointments. “It is our country and we must not give it away to anyone. It is the keynote idea of all these appointments,” he said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko was convinced that all the people, who were present in his office, were true professionals. “You are experienced people. Professionalism is primarily about experience. Professionals are a far cry from ‘snotty’ school graduates, who have no education but want to live a rich life as they say. But in order to live a rich life (particularly in the market conditions they all want so much), you have to compete and win primarily with your brain, knowledge, and hard work against people like them. It is the recipe for success,” he noted.

“This is why I know that you are worthy people. I would very much like you to succeed in your positions regardless of who you work with. Whoever your boss may be, you should be professionals, who are devoted to your state. It is equal to the instruction ‘Always defend your opinion’. And if you have to protect someone, then you should protect them, you will have a lot of subordinates. You cannot leave alone the people, who deserve support. At least I will always give you such support,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out once again.
