Lukashenko: Belarus, Germany can deepen cooperation

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Germany can advance cooperation, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Wolfram Maas on 15 June in connection with the expiry of his diplomatic mission in the country, BelTA has learned.

“If we join efforts, we will manage to advance relations between Belarus and Germany,” the President stressed.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus prioritizes the cooperation with Germany and implements many projects taking into account the experience of this country. In particular, German standards are used to modernize the Belarusian manufacturing sector, the head of state said.

“If we come to an agreement and promote common interests, we will be very responsible partners and will be ready to implement joint agreements, discuss any topics and issues,” the President assured. He praised the efforts of Wolfram Maas to strengthen Belarus-Germany relations. “Thank you for the constructive position which you were holding when you were the ambassador to Belarus. You were doing your best to promote understanding between our nations. You have not done anything to create tension between Belarus and Germany. You understand our situation, you know the history of our relations. You were a wise and tactful ambassador,” the Belarusian head of state noted.

Wolfram Maas, in turn, stressed that Belarus belongs to the European family. “When working in your country I made sure of that. I do not overestimate the ambassador’s capability to develop bilateral relations. At the same time, I would like to say that it was easy for me to work in Belarus,” the diplomat said.
