Lukashenko arrives in Kazakhstan on working visit

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has arrived in Kazakhstan on a working visit. The aircraft with the Belarusian head of state on board has landed at Astana Airport, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko will take part in the session of the Council of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In his speech at the summit the head of state will voice the position of the Belarusian side regarding the further development of the organization, including its economic dimension. As an observer in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Belarus takes an active part in a wide range of events in all major dimensions: political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ones.

The Belarusian president will also attend the opening ceremony of the international specialized Expo 2017 in Astana. The Belarusian pavilion will be opened there.

Ambassador of Belarus to Kazakhstan Anatoly Nichkasov said in an interview that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization engages countries interested not only in ensuring security in this huge space in its activities. “In recent years, the organization has paid attention to the economic and social dimension which is absolutely in tune with the policy of Belarus. I think that for this reason Belarus has become an observer country and takes an active part in all events held by the organization at the highest level,” the ambassador said.

The participants of the summit in Astana will also consider the accession of new members – India and Pakistan.

“Today we see real benefits for Belarus in the expansion of interaction within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,” Anatoly Nichkasov said. First of all, he mentioned Belarus’ transit potential, the expansion of cooperation in transportation. Besides, various financial institutions want to join efforts and potentials for investing in the development of the infrastructure of ports, railways, motorways.

Chairman of the State Science and Technologies Committee Alexander Shumilin told reporters about the Belarusian exposition at EXPO 2017. Belarus will have an interactive pavilion featuring cutting-edge achievements of Belarusian scientists and industrial products in various fields. “Belarus is a hi-tech country. We can offer a lot of things to the whole world. And we have an open economy. To promote the export of our products, we, of course, need to advertize ourselves on the international arena. For this purpose, we showcase our best products here,” Alexander Shumilin said.

Belarus will also present its investment potential, including the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park as a venue for possible investment and joint ventures.

Besides, the Belarusian leader is expected to have a bilateral meeting with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astana. The heads of state will discuss the agenda of the Belarusian-Kazakhstani relations, interaction in integration formats.
