MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – Alexei Shemarov of Belarus won the freestyle heavyweight (125kg) silver at the European Games in Baku on 18 June, BelTA has learned.
In the final 2011 world champion Alexei Shemarov lost 0-3 to Turkey’s Taha Akgul, the European champion of the past three years and the 2014 world champion.
Bronze medals went to Geno Petriashvili of Georgia and Jamaladdin Magomedov of Azerbaijan.
Alexei Shemarov claimed the only medal among the Belarusians in the men’s freestyle wrestling. Earlier, Vasilisa Marzalyuk won the women’s 75kg gold. Nadezhda Shushko (53kg) and Veronika Ivanova (60kg) claimed bronze medals. Belarus also bagged three medals in the Greco-Roman wrestling. Soslan Daurov brought the 59kg silver to Belarus. Bronze medals were collected by Viktor Sosunovsky (80kg) and Ioseb Chugoshvili (130kg).
