MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – Team Belarus has won four gold medals at the World Summer Universade in Gwangju, the Republic of Korea, BelTA has learned.
Belarusian Tatiana Kholodovich was victorious in the Women’s Javelin Throw final with the result of 60m 45cm. the Belarusian was 19cm ahead of her nearest rival Lina Muze of Latvia.
Belarus’ Lidia Morozova/Andrey Vasilevsky defeated Alexandra Walker/Darren Walsh of the United Kingdom 6-2, 6-3 in the mixed doubles final.
The leader of Belarus rhythmic gymnastics team Melitina Staniouta won the ribbon event scoring 17.900 points. She was ahead of Korea’s Yeon Jae Son (17.800) and Ukrainian Anna Rizatdinova (17.750).
Melitina Staniouta also picked up the silver medal in the clubs and two bronze medals (individual all-round and in the hoop).
Yevgeny Tsurkin of Belarus came in first in Men's 50m Freestyle on 10 July. It was the third podium finish for Yevgeny Tsurkin. The Belarusian also bagged the 100m butterfly bronze and the 50m butterfly silver.
Hammer throwers Pavel Boreisha won silver and Sergei Kolomoyets bronze medals. Double sculls duet Tatiana Klimovich and Kristina Staroselets were bronze medalists as well.
So far Team Belarus has won 12 medals (4 gold, 3 silver, 5 bronze) and is 15th in the overall medal standings. The Republic of Korea is first with 107 medals (47, 31, 29). Russia is second with 122 medals (34, 39, 49). Second is China with 72 (34, 22, 16).
