Delegations join Lukashenko-Putin talks in Sochi

Delegations join Lukashenko-Putin talks in Sochi

SOCHI, 7 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian and Russian delegations have joined the talks that Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin are holding in Sochi, BelTA has learned.

The Russian delegation is attending in a reduced format as not all its members were able to reach Sochi due to bad weather.

On behalf of Russia, apart from Vladimir Putin, the talks are attended by Deputy Head of the Russian President's Administration Dmitry Kozak, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and Russia’s Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev.

The Belarusian delegation includes First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Krutoi, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko, Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich and Chairman of the Belneftekhim state petrochemical concern Andrei Rybakov.

“Unfortunately, our delegation has not come here in full yet. I hope that the weather conditions will improve, and they will arrive a little later. We can already start our discussions, talk over current issues. I think that we will also go beyond the issues that are most relevant today. We have a lot of matters to discuss. Aleksandr Grigoriyevich [Lukashenko] and I have already touched upon many issues of mutual interest in almost an hour and a half of our talks,” said Vladimir Putin.

According to him, when the rest of the delegation make it to the place of negotiations, the parties will move on to the second round of negotiations.

“I think today’s meeting will be useful. I want to thank you, Aleksandr Grigoriyevich, for coming,” said the Russian President.

TASS reported earlier that the plane of the Rossiya special flight detachment with a part of the government delegation and journalists of the Russian presidential pool departed from Moscow to Sochi with a two-hour delay. On board the plane are Deputy Prime Minister Aleksei Overchuk, Energy Minister Alexander Novak and First Deputy Minister of Economic Development Mikhail Babich.

The flight from Moscow's Vnukovo Airport was delayed due to bad weather- a snow storm with strong side winds.

The plane carrying some members of the Russian delegation heading to Sochi had to land in Mineralnye Vody.
