Lukashenko welcomes participants of Belt and Road Forum in Belarus

MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent a message of greetings to participants of the Belt and Road Forum for Regional Cooperation and Development that opened at the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, the base platform of the initiative, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The head of state underlined that Belarus was among the first European countries to respond to the call of leader of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to take part in this international project. “In 2014 we signed a corresponding agreement. A year later we launched the construction of the park together with the Chinese leader. Today it is a place where economic interests of Europe and Asia converge; it is by right dubbed a gem of the Belt and Road initiative. The main theme of the forum “Open park Great Stone - an example of global opportunities” reflects the main idea of the project. It means that the initiative was born in China, but the entire world can benefit from the opportunities it offers,” the Belarusian head of state noted.

The president added that the Great Stone park is a place where a new-generation city with an eco-friendly industry is emerging. It will set an example for the countries taking part in the initiative.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed hope that the forum will be held in the spirit of partnership and cooperation and that it will inspire its participants to reach new heights and to embark on promising joint projects.
