Belarusian army’s re-equipment focused on higher mobility

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – Higher mobility is prioritized as part of the campaign to re-equip the Belarusian army. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the government conference on territorial defense on 17 February, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that exercises and tests of the Belarusian army are arranged without any fanfares. “We are re-equipping our armed forces by focusing on mobile components,” said the President.

“The army has to be mobile. It has to travel in mobile vehicles,” believes the head of state.

Speaking about territorial defense troops, the head of state noted that they are supposed to carry out missions the army is unfit for during a period of threat. Such missions may include security and defense of installations like power substations and bread factories.

Belarusian army’s re-equipment focused on higher mobilityThe government conference that gathered the heads of the oblast administrations and the Minsk City Executive Committee to discuss territorial defense matters is one of the ways to train heads of municipal executive and administrative bodies. It is the first time the event has employed such a format. The conference is scheduled to take place on 17-18 February under the supervision of the Defense Ministry. The training component includes theoretical and practical studies. The latter will take place at the firing range of the 120th independent mechanized brigade. It will include the organization of weapons practice, the accommodation of personnel in winter conditions, the equipment of territorial defense forces with arms, means of communication, and other articles. At the end of the training session the students will be made familiar with armaments and materiel used by territorial defense forces and will also do some weapons practice.

Alexander Lukashenko encouraged the oblast governors to treat their participation in the training session in an informal manner while taking a close look at all the aspects of operation of territorial defense forces.
