MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Belarusian speed skater Ignat Golovatyuk won the 500m gold at the ongoing ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships to set a new national record in sprint on 11 March, BelTA has learned.
The tournament, which is taking place in China’s Changchun, opened with the 500m medal event on 11 March. Ignat Golovatyuk clocked 35.77 seconds in his rivalry with Estonia’s Marten Liiv. Belarus’ previous record was 36.77 seconds that was set by Ignat Golovatyuk on 5 February in Minsk.
Silver was earned by Canada’s Christopher Fiola (35.97 seconds). Bronze went to China’s Tao Yang (36.03). The gold medal at the world sport forum is not the first success for the Belarusian athlete. Several days ago he won silver at the ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating Final in Changchun.
MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Belarus President, President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has sent greetings to Ignat Golovatyuk who won a gold medal at the ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships in Chinese Changchun, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
“You have conquered a very important summit for our country. This medal and recent results of the junior team give us hope for the revival of glorious speed skating traditions in Belarus,” the message of greetings reads.
Alexander Lukashenko also thanked coaches and members of the team.
“I sincerely wish you strong health, happiness, and scintillating victories at international competitions,” the President wished.
