MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – The Presidents of Belarus and Serbia emphasized the commitment of the two countries to the universal principles of international law. This idea was included in the joint statement which was signed by Alexander Lukashenko and Tomislav Nikolic in Minsk on 19 November, BelTA has learned.
The Presidents pointed out the commitment of the two countries to the fulfillment of the goals and principles of the UN, enhancement of its central role in the resolution of the entire complex of issues concerning the maintenance of peace and security, addressing modern challenges and threats, peaceful regulation of international conflicts and disputes. The leaders of the two countries agreed to expand cooperation in regional associations and initiatives.
The heads of state mentioned constructive cooperation of Belarus and Serbia in the OSCE. They emphasized the countries’ commitment to the promotion of the organization as an important forum for the equal and balanced dialogue on security matters and cooperation, raising the efficiency of this organization in the protection of the fundamental consensus principle.
Taking into consideration the mutual interest in the enhancement of long-term mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two states, the Presidents pointed out a positive dynamics in the all-round cooperation between Belarus and Serbia relying on traditional close spiritual and cultural ties of the two Slavonic nations.
Alexander Lukashenko and Tomislav Nikolic praised the results of cooperation and the progress in various fields reached after the top-level meeting in Belgrade in 2014, expressed mutual interest in the maintenance of the regular bilateral political dialogue at the top and high levels, vigorous development of parliamentary ties, improvement of existing and creation of new mechanisms of the Belarusian-Serbian trade and economic interaction, expansion of the legal framework of cooperation.
The Presidents of Belarus and Serbia pointed out new opportunities for the development of trade and economic cooperation in connection with Belarus’ participation in the EEU, Serbia’s free trade regime with the European Union, the Central European Free Trade Association and other countries. The sides were satisfied with the positive dynamics of cooperation and determined the priorities of advancing bilateral ties.
