MOSCOW, 7 December (BelTA) – People’s Artist of Belarus and the USSR Rostislav Yankovsky has been given the Russian national theater award Golden Mask for his outstanding contribution to the development of theater art. The winners of the prestigious award were announced in Moscow on 7 December, BelTA has learned.
Rostislav Yankovsky is the only foreign national on the list of awardees. The list also includes People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin, scene designer, People's Artist of Russia Boris Messerer, ballet choreographer, People’s Artist of Russia Boris Eifman, artistic director of the Saint Petersburg Academic Maly Drama Theater, People’s Artist of Russia Lev Dodin, People’s Artist of Russia Klavdia Kisenkova, actor of the Galiaskar Kamal Tatar Academic Theater, People’s Artist of Russia Rinat Tazetdinov, and People’s Artist of Russia Rimma Belyakova.
Other winners will be decided during the Golden Mask Festival to be held in Moscow in March-April 2016. The award ceremony will take place on 16 April.
The Russian national award Golden Mask was established in 1993. It is given to productions in all genres of theater art, including drama, opera, ballet, operetta, musical, and puppet theater. The winners are chosen during the annual festival of nominee performances. The decisions are made by the Union of Theater Workers of Russia, the Russian Culture Ministry, the Government of Moscow, and the expert board of the Golden Mask Festival.
