MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) - The Belarus President team defeated Team Grodno 2:0 in a match of the 9th national amateur ice hockey tournament for the prizes of the President Sports Club on 27 December, BelTA has learned.

The match at Chizhovka Arena featured the teams who placed first and third at the tournament last year. The first period was tense. Team Grodno was good in defense and had good chances in counterattacks to open the scoring. However, it was Yevgeny Kurilin of the Belarus President Team who put the team on the scoring board first at the 18th minute. The second period was scoreless. The second goal was scored at the 50th minute by Andrei Glebov from the President Team to make it 2:0. In the last minute of the match, Team Grodno replaced the goalkeeper for the sixth player but failed to put the puck in the net.

The best players of the match were Yan Shelepnev (Team Grodno) and defender Andrei Glebov (Belarus President Team).

After four games the Belarus President Team is first on the scoreboard of the tournament with 8 points.

The matches of the first stage of the 9th national amateur ice hockey tournament for the prizes of the President Sport Club run from November to March. After the end of the one-round tournament the four best-placed teams advance to the second stage to play for the medals and the main prize of the tournament.

Belarus President Team is the six-time winner of the tournament: in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. In 2009 the winner was Team Gomel Oblast, and in 2013 – Team Minsk Oblast. Organizers of the tournament are the President Sport Club, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Ice Hockey Federation of the Republic of Belarus, and the Minsk City Hall. The general information partner of the tournament is the National State TV and Radio Company.
