MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) - The important role of Belarus in promoting peace and security in the region was highlighted at the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement in Caracas on 18-21 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Valentin Rybakov addressed the plenary session of the Ministerial Meeting. He laid out the position of the Republic of Belarus on the prospects for cooperation of states both within the Non-Aligned Movement and in the context of joint response to external challenges and threats. During the event, Belarus also made a statement on behalf of the European regional group within the Bureau of the Ministerial Meeting stressing the important role of our country in promoting peace and security in its region.
On the margins of the conference, Valentin Rybakov held bilateral meetings with the delegations from a number of states and high representatives of the host country. Following the meeting, the states adopted the final document and a declaration in support of the norms and principles of international law and the UN Charter.
The Non-Aligned Movement is an international political union uniting 120 member states. It draws on the principles of non-participation in military alliances and promotes joint efforts against unilateral approaches and actions towards developing states. Belarus joined the Non-Aligned Movement in 1998.
