Belarus claims Youth Relay gold at IBU YJWCH

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Team Belarus of Dinara Alimbekova, Anna Sola and Darya Blashko won the 3x6 Youth Relay of the 2015 IBU Youth/Junior World Championships with seven spare rounds on 23 February, BelTA has learned.

The local team covered the distance in 51:50.2 to claim the second gold of the championships that are underway at Belarusian Raubichi. The first gold for Belarus was collected by Darya Blashko in the 6K Youth Sprint.

Team Russia were second, 14 seconds behind with one penalty and nine spare rounds. Third finished Norwegian biathletes, 1:03.5 back, with four space rounds.

Dinara Alimbekova showed high tempo from the very start coming to the first shooting range as the leader. Two space rounds kept the Belarusian from penalties and Alimbekova remained in the top three slightly behind the athlete going first. The Belarusian had a perfect second shooting session to tag Anna Sola third, just 10 seconds behind the leading team of Slovenia.

Anna Sola left her first shooting stage in the first position leaving Slovenian and Russian biathletes behind. The Belarusian slightly lost her time advantage at the second shooting due to two spare rounds. Anna Sola led 26 seconds over second-going Russian Natalia Ushkina when she tagged Darya Blashko.

Darya Blashko quickly cleaned prone and needed two spares in the standing to left for the final part of the race in the leading position. Fast-going Russian Kristina Reztsova failed to catch up with the Belarusian and had to settle for the silver medal.

It is the first Youth Relay gold for Belarus. Team Belarus claimed silver in 2009 and bronze in 2010.
