First gold for Belarus at 2015 IBU YJWCH

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – Darya Blashko of Belarus brought her country the first gold after sealing the victory in the 6km Youth Women Sprint of the 2015 IBU Youth/Junior World Championships which is underway in Raubichi, Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Darya Blashko showed a very confident performance, combining speed on tracks and clean-shooting. The Belarusian was third after the first shooting stage and grabbed the lead after the second, finishing in 16:26.4. Silver went to Austria’s Julia Schwaiger, 5.5 seconds back with clean shooting. Norway’s Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold missed one target to come in third, 6.2 seconds back. The Norwegian athlete added second medal to her 10km Youth Individual silver.

As for Darya Blashko, the Belarusian has already performed at the IBU World Cup this season. Before her medal success Belarus’ best result at the ongoing championships in Raubichi so far has been Viktor Krivko’s 6th place in the 15km Junior Men Individual event.

Dinara Alimbekova showed ideal shooting and was second behind her teammate Darya Blashko after the second shooting session. However, she lost her position and finished one step from the podium, 11.1 seconds behind the winning time. Anna Sola missed one target to share the fifth place with Russia’s Elizaveta Kaplina, with both 17.6 seconds back.

Kristina Mazurina of Belarus had two penalties to cross the finish line in 25th, 1:55.2 back. The Belarusian quarter won the right to take part in the 7.5km Youth Pursuit slated for 22 February.
