MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Russia's Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov expects that a Ukraine peace deal will be signed at a session of the three-party contact group (Ukraine-Russia-OSCE) in Minsk on 5 September. The diplomat said it as he met with reporters in the run-up to the meeting, BelTA has learned.
The meeting will take place in the President Hotel.
As was reported earlier, Minsk has already hosted two meetings of the contact group Ukraine-OSCE-Russia on 31 July and 1 September. Both of them were attended by representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic. During the September meeting representatives of the unrecognized republics shared their proposals with the Ukrainian side on a peaceful settlement of the situation in the south-east of Ukraine.
In particular, they discussed the release of prisoners, provision of humanitarian assistance to the civilian population of the territories affected by the conflict. In this context, the parties welcomed the release of 50 people in August this year. The efforts made to provide humanitarian aid to the conflict-ridden regions in accordance with international standards were welcomed.
