Zimbabwe president confirms readiness to visit Belarus

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik met with Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa during his visit to Harare on 23 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The parties confirmed mutual interest in developing interstate contacts," the ministry said.

Sergei Aleinik handed over to the Zimbabwean head of state a message from Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on the preparations for Emmerson Mnangagwa's return visit to Belarus. “The president of Zimbabwe, in turn, conveyed his best wishes to his counterpart and friend, the president of Belarus and once again confirmed his readiness to visit Belarus in the near future,” the ministry said.

The parties focused attention on interaction in the economic sector, including agriculture, industrial cooperation, food production, healthcare and so on. The parties noted the need to effectively convert good political relations between the countries into concrete, beneficial economic projects for both countries, which will be important for the sustainable development of the states and the wellbeing of the peoples.

The similarity of approaches to the main problems of the global and regional agenda was emphasized, including the issues of a just world order, the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the sustainable development of states and ensuring food security on a global scale.

Sergei Aleinik also extended an invitation to the First Lady of Zimbabwe Auxillia Mnangagwa to visit the international arts festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk.
