Yermoshina: Convening CEC members before election day is announced a common practice

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Holding a session of the Central Election Commission (CEC) before the election date is announced is a common practice, CEC Chairperson Lidia Yermoshina said at the session of the commission on 14 May, BelTA has learned.

"Holding a session before the election date is announced is a common practice. The point is that we are preparing two textbooks for the election. These are manuals for territorial and district election commissions. These manuals are not tied to the election date. But these are voluminous works which are needed already on the next day after the date of the election is announced," Lidia Yermoshina explained.

She also said that 155 territorial election commissions will be working during the election. They will be created no later than 80 days before the election. Their term of office will expire after the election results are announced. Thus, the commissions will be working for approximately 85 days.

Attending the CEC session are 12 members of the CEC, and 14 representatives from the regions and the city of Minsk. The session is set to discuss the issues relating to the manuals for members of the territorial commissions on the elections of the President of Belarus.
