MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – The CSTO is coming to play an increasingly bigger role amidst a tense geopolitical situation, State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“Amidst a tough geopolitical situation the role and impact of the CSTO is growing. There is no denying it. It is reckoned with by such powerful organizations as the SCO with which close cooperation has been established. Closer tie with the SCO were one of the priorities for the Collective Security Treaty Organization during Belarus’ presidency. I think, we have succeeded in it,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
He also recalled the joint conference on the security agenda.
Aleksandr Volfovich is confident that the agenda of Belarus’ chairmanship in the CSTO reflected in its motto “Through solidarity and cooperation to peace and security” is very relevant. “If we want to address problems, we should come together and discuss them on international platforms, look for solutions, respond to modern challenges and threats. The key task for the Organization is to ensure peace and security in our countries. If it succeeds, this will encourage others, both within and beyond the post-Soviet space, to join our Organization. Everything is in place for this. I think that in the future our Organization will be much bigger than six countries [the current number of the CSTO member states]. Everything looks set for this,” Belarus’ Security Council chief said.
He also emphasized the need for a peaceful solution of all international problems.
