MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) — State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich explained the need to amend the Security Concept of the Belarus-Russia Union State in an interview to ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“When developing this document, we relied primarily on the existing strategic planning documents in terms of security of Russia and Belarus. Both of these documents focus on defense. The key task of this document is to preserve peace and ensure security in the Union State,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.

The state secretary remarked that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin have the same views on the events taking place in the world and fully understand the scale of external threats. “The threats come mainly from the United States,” he emphasized. “The security concept of the Union State sets out our vision and attitude towards the policy pursued against our countries by the United States, the European Union and the NATO bloc. We see their aggressiveness towards our states. We have taken this into account and set this out in the security concept of the Union State. The attitude of our countries towards other states, which are pursuing a friendly, good-neighborly policy towards us, have been outlined in the document as well.”

The security concept of the Union State is expected to be discussed in autumn at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
