Uzbekistan president arrives in Minsk on official visit

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) - Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Minsk on an official visit. His plane landed at Minsk National Airport, BelTA has learned.

At the airport the Uzbekistan head of state was welcomed by Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei.

 As the press service of the Belarus president reported, the two heads of state will meet at the Palace of Independence first one-on-one and then with the participation of the delegations. Aleksandr Lukashenko and Shavkat Mirziyoyev will discuss a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, with the focus on economic ties. The parties will talk over prospects for joint projects in mechanical engineering, light industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, transport and IT.

“Close attention will be paid to interregional ties, industrial cooperation and creation of favorable conditions for mutual trade in goods and services. The leaders of Belarus and Uzbekistan will also discuss the political agenda and the situation in the region and in the world,” the press service informed.

The presidents are expected to attend the exhibition of Uzbekistan products, which is currently underway in the Belarusian capital. Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is also scheduled to visit the Hi-Tech Park.

In January-June 2019 bilateral trade made up $113.1 million (up 25.3% year-on-year), with Belarusian merchandise export at $88.8 million (up 28.3%). Import from Uzbekistan went up by 15.6% to $24.3 million.

Belarus major exports to Uzbekistan include tractors, chassis, vehicle bodies, parts and accessories for tractors, engines, sugar, timber, road and construction equipment, trucks, meat, poultry offal. Uzbekistan’s major exports to Belarus feature cotton, grape, fruits, nuts, clothing, bedding, table linen, juice, cotton fiber.
