Union State commission on common sci-tech space to meet in Minsk 15 November

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – The first meeting of the Belarus-Russia commission on common sci-tech space will take place in Minsk on 15 November, Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin told the media on 13 November.

“On 15 November the Union State commission on common sci-tech space will hold its first meeting. This means we are coming onto a new level of mutual relations in the area of science and technology with the Russian Federation, and first of all in the Union State,” said the chairman of the committee.

Alexander Shumilin will serve as a co-chair of the commission, together with Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Grigory Trubnikov on Russia’s behalf. The event will be held at the Belarusian National Technical University. The commission will consider issues related to the formation of sub-commissions and the action plan for 2018. The agenda will also include the discussion of the draft program Comprehensive Forecast of the Union State Sci-Tech Progress for 2012-2025 and for the Period through 2040, the list of priority sci-tech and innovative programs and projects of the Union State. The draft provision on the Union State Award in Science and Technology will be considered as well.

Alexander Shumilin also spoke about the preliminary results of the Year of Science in the context of international relations. “Our scientific achievements have reached the market of the United States and the market of Spain for the first time. We have made headway in the European Union. Today more than 30 joint projects are implemented with the EU. We held the Days of the Belarusian Science in Moscow, and also the CEI ministerial conference. We have been developing our cooperation with China in building up joint infrastructure. We are implementing the first projects in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone,” he said.

With a view to enhancing the status of the scientist and the role of science in implementing Belarus’ social and economic development, the creation of favorable conditions for preserving the country’s scientific potential, 2017 was announced the Year of Science in Belarus.
