UNDP offers joint project to Belarus’ Justice Ministry

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – The Justice Ministry of Belarus and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) plan a joint project in the area of justice and the supremacy of law, BelTA learnt from spokeswoman for the Justice Ministry Olga Murashkovskaya.

“The implementation of a global project covering various areas in justice and the rule of law, including rulemaking, education in the law, legal services, law enforcement and many other matters was discussed at a meeting between Belarus Justice Minister Oleg Slizhevsky and UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha,” said Olga Murashkovskaya.

Sanaka Samarasinha offered the Belarusian Justice Ministry to act as a national coordinator of the project in which other government bodies would be able to take place. In turn, Oleg Slizhevsky expressed readiness to provide a detailed elaboration of the project by both specialists of the Justice Ministry and UNDP experts.

“The parties agreed to intensify cooperation and set up a joint working group to work with proposals on the abovementioned project. The participants of the meetings also outlined further steps necessary to implement the initiative,” noted Olga Murashkovskaya.

Oleg Slizhevsky and Sanaka Samarasinha coordinated further work on the implementation of the reached agreements and share opinions on possible forms of future cooperation in the spirit of partnership and mutual understanding.
