MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – On 2 April the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to designate 25 April as International Delegate’s Day. The resolution was initiated by Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Adopted in the run-up to the seventy-fifth anniversary of the San Francisco Conference which resulted in the creation of the United Nations, the resolution is designed to highlight the role of the delegates of the UN States Members in fulfilling the main goals of the United Nations. The resolution also acknowledges the role of the UN founding nations, including Belarus. In the context of the centennial anniversary of the Belarusian diplomatic service in 2019, the resolution welcomes national initiatives on the establishment and celebration of a diplomatic workers’ or service day,” the ministry informed.
The resolution was co-authored by more than 20 states. Presenting the resolution to the UN General Assembly, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas highlighted, first of all, its human rights dimension, its relevance and unifying nature. “Promotion and adoption of such non-confrontational resolutions has already become Belarus’ signature feature, which is a testimony to our country’s commitment to the constructive approach to international relations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.
