MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – UK’s MPs are confident that the efforts to boost parliamentary ties with Belarus will bear fruit. This topic was discussed at the meeting of Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich with a delegation of the UK parliament on 28 May, BelTA has learnt.
Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that it is the first visit of such a representative delegation from the United Kingdom (it includes six members of the House of Commons) in the history of parliamentary relations of the two countries. It opens up a new page in the history of bilateral cooperation, Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Belarus John Whittingdale emphasized that British MPs have no doubts about the success and importance of strengthening parliamentary links with Belarus. He noted that he is set to discuss various opportunities for economic and political cooperation during the ongoing visit.
Top on the agenda of the meeting were interregional contacts and other issues of mutual interest. The delegation from the UK is set to meet with the Parliamentary Group on the UK of the National Assembly of Belarus. The meeting will be hosted by the Council of the Republic on 28 May.
