Two IAEA missions to come to Belarus in 2021

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus plans to host two IAEA missions in 2021, First Deputy Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor)  Leonid Dedul told reporters at BelTA’s press center on 22 February.

“The next international inspection is scheduled for June-July. This will be the IAEA's International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS) mission. The IAEA mission to assess the regulatory framework for nuclear and radiation safety will arrive in Belarus at the end of the year, if the epidemiological situation allows. Belarus demonstrates openness, we invite foreign experts,” Leonid Dedul said.

“Experts say that we have good practices that the IAEA can recommend to other newcomer countries. We are trying to stay current with the times,” the Gosatomnadzor representative emphasized.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW.
