The CIS IPA observers, as part of the CIS election observation mission, are on a long-term and short-term monitoring of the preparations for the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan. The group comprises 29 observers: MPs and representatives of the supreme legislative authorities of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan, and also members of the secretariat of the CIS IPA Council and experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of CIS IPA Member Nations.

The short-term monitoring envisages meetings with representatives of the parliament and government of Kyrgyzstan, the Central Election Commission, and also representatives of the election campaign teams of the presidential candidates. On the polling day the observers will monitor the process at the polling stations in Bishkek, Issyk-Kul Region and Chuy Region of Kyrgyzstan, and also the foreign polling stations in Baku, Minsk, Moscow and St Petersburg.

The CIS observation mission at the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan has accredited 190 observers. The election observation mission will be led by Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.

The presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan are scheduled for 15 October. Thirteen candidates, five of whom have been nominated by parties, will run for the post of the president. Incumbent head of state Almazbek Atambayev is not allowed to run again because the constitution sets a single six-year term for the head of state.
