Threat counteraction, military technology cooperation. Volfovich meets with counterparts in Moscow
MOSCOW, 27 May (BelTA) – State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich held a number of bilateral meetings with foreign colleagues on the sidelines of an international security forum in Moscow. In particular, negotiations were held with high-ranking government officials that oversee security matters from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Pakistan, Angola, Mongolia, and Serbia, BelTA has learned.
“Matters related, of course, to the international situation and views of various states on modern challenges and threats are being discussed. Threats worry everyone equally. Everyone calls for ensuring security and peace, first and foremost. This is what worries everyone the most. And, certainly, everyone is building a constructive dialogue in terms of cooperation on security matters,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
He noted that the Republic of the Union of Myanmar demonstrates a significant initiative in cooperation with Belarus. “These days the defense minister of this state is on a visit to Belarus. He is meeting with the defense minister of the Republic of Belarus. This is already his second visit in practically two years. They [Myanmar representatives] are very interested in matters related to the track record that Belarus has in countering modern challenges and threats, primarily terrorism, the fight against drug trafficking, the fight against illegal migration, and arms trafficking,” the state secretary specified.
In his words, the same topics worry representatives of other states as well. “We’ve discussed joint projects, matters of military technology cooperation, and matters in the military sphere. Therefore, such a dialogue took place in practically the same manner and in the same direction with all delegations,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
The state secretary reminded that a bilateral meeting had also been held the day before with Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Sergei Shoigu. “If you look at the geography of the talks, then one may say that this is how the multi-vector policy of Belarus works in practice. We demonstrate precisely what we talk about: we stand for a multipolar world and for mutual respect of all states,” he emphasized.
Aleksandr Volfovich also drew attention to the fact that representatives of more than 140 states gathered at the forum’s venue. Taking the opportunity, both during meetings and in the course of his speeches, the state secretary invited his colleagues to take part in the upcoming international conference on Eurasian security to be held in Minsk in autumn. “We are discussing our Belarusian-Russian initiative with our colleagues – the Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century. By the way, it is supported by practically everyone. Therefore, those who are interested in ensuring peace, of course, accept it and say unequivocally that this document is needed today, it is in demand, and it will contribute to ensuring security and peace,” he added.
