Third Forum of Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities held online

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – The Third Forum of the Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities will become an important milestone in Belarus-Russia academic cooperation, Belarus’ Education Minister Igor Karpenko said at the forum that was held online on 28 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Education Ministry.

In his welcoming address, Igor Karpenko expressed confidence that the Third Forum of the Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities will become an important milestone in strengthening Belarus-Russia cooperation and that it will offer a great opportunity to discuss a broad range of cooperation matters, including digitalization of education, joint educational programs, joint research laboratories and centers, scientific events and projects, youth forums, conferences and competitions.

First Deputy Education Minister Irina Starovoitova stressed that the Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities is an important tool to facilitate cooperation between higher learning institutions aimed at creating a common educational, research and technological space of the Union State, improving the training process based on advanced methods and technologies. In the face of serious challenges, it is very important that the two countries retain their foothold in the global market of educational services and remain competitive.

Higher learning institutions of Belarus and Russia are up to the task. Their cooperation is expanding to cover projects in agriculture and mechanical engineering, information technology, electronics, energy, bio-pharmaceuticals and joint space research. Academic mobility is increasing. More Belarusian and Russian students and postgraduates take advantage of academic exchange programs to study in the partner country. We will continue to provide all-round support and practical assistance to all joint projects and initiatives,” Irina Starovoitova said.

“The holding of the Third Forum of the Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities in the run-up to the Forum of Regions attests to the continuous joint efforts to improve the quality of education. Belarus-Russia academic contacts can be called an example of relations between the two countries that are linked by common principles of foreign and domestic policy, understanding of common history, values and cultural traditions, desire to cooperate and learn from experience,” the press service emphasized.

In recent years, bilateral relations have established themselves as strategic partnership. In order to deepen integration and create a common educational space of the Union State, an agreement was signed in July 2019 to institute the Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities. This association became a place for making important decisions and a platform for putting forward mutually beneficial proposals. A shared position on fundamental issues and coordination of efforts allow the two countries to retain their leadership in the high-tech world in the face of serious challenges facing science and education.

These days the Forum of the Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities is regarded as a reputable dialogue platform, which is successfully used to establish productive contacts and exchange best practices on a wide range of issues in the field of education and science.
