Tanzania ready for all-round trade, economic cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Tanzania and Belarus intend to step up trade and economic cooperation. The relevant agreement was reached during a working visit of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Kenya (with concurrent accreditation to Ethiopia, Uganda, and Tanzania) Dmitry Kuptel to Kenya, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Kenya.

The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission paid a visit to Dar es Salaam and Dodoma to meet with representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, defense and agriculture, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and also the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation. 

“The parties confirmed readiness to develop comprehensive trade and economic cooperation with the focus on agriculture, industry, infrastructure, education and security. The parties emphasized the need for prompt signing of a number of bilateral agreements in the abovementioned areas. In part of the political dialogue development, the sides agreed to continue cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries, including within international organizations,” the embassy said.

Belarus and Tanzania have significantly boosted bilateral relations after a joint business forum took place in Minsk in 2016. In 2017, the mutual trade soared seven times from $6.6 million in 2016 to almost $48 million. In the same year the Belarusian ambassador presented his credentials to the president of Tanzania. Belarus also submitted to Tanzania a set of bilateral agreements for consideration. Last year, the bilateral trade slightly reduced to make up $30 million.
